Temperatures are about to drop, and the dark evenings were made for indulgent cosy comfort viewing don’t you think?
We’ve scoured Netflix for some of the best autumnal shows that give us all the seasonal feels – simply add your favourite fluffy duvet, pumpkin spice lattes and candles for the ultimate Netflix-binging hibernation sensation.
Gilmore Girls
Quintessential autumn vibes are condensed into the small town of Stars Hollow, centre stage of the drama unfolding in Gilmore Girls. This show follows the relationship between single mother, Lorelai and her daughter Rory as they navigate high school, careers and relationships.
The Chair
The Chair follows the newly appointed Sandra Oh as Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, chairwoman of an English department at a small, liberal arts university. She’s ready for change in the institution, taking on patriarchy, sexism, ageism and what it means to be a single mom, being stuck between two cultures and speaking two languages. All with a bucket load of comedy.
Notting Hill
Hugh Grant + Julia Roberts + 90’s aesthetic? = A recipe for autumn movie success. This romantic comedy follows British bookseller William as he meets and falls in love with high profile American actress Anna. Their romance is a rocky road as they both come to terms with their very different social status.
Ratched
Created by acclaimed writer, Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story). This show gives us all the creepy pre-Halloween feels as we witness Nurse Ratched unravel at the seams while working at a mental institution. Becoming increasingly bitter and jaded, her patients will face the consequences.
Enola Holmes
Stranger things star, Millie Bobbie Brown stars as Enola Holmes, a gifted investigator just like her older brother. This movie follows Enola using her sleuthing skills to try and find her missing mother while outsmarting her older brother Sherlock. Need more persuasion? Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Think of the 90’s classic, now add a helping of Satan, blood pledges, monsters and high school drama. This darker adaptation follows the teenage witch as she comes to terms with dual nature, half-witch, half-mortal, while also battling the other evil forces in her life, from the devil himself to high school bullies.
Matilda
For pure nostalgia feel-good viewing, Matilda is your best bet. Don’t forget about the iconic kitchen scene, the playful soundtrack and Miss Honey’s incredible dress sense. Perfect for the evening calls for something familiar and friendly.
Happy binge-watching!
