Kids Lunchbox Life Savers!

Published on 11th August 2017

Whipping up a tasty and exciting lunch box for your family can be difficult when it’s something that needs to be done every day. Here at Marshes, we’ve got some ideas on how you can make your child’s school lunch more interesting and packed full of important nutrition!

A good and healthy lunch should contain starchy foods like their favourite bread or some pasta, a source of protein like meat or beans, some dairy like cheese or yoghurt and the all-important fruit and veggies!

Make their lunch more exciting (and nutritional) by making up some double-decker sandwiches with an extra slice of bread inside. Adding some extra bread means you can also squeeze in some extra goodness with more salad, veggies or fruit!

This will make sure their classic sandwich packs a good nutritional punch but choose wholemeal if possible.

If you like to bake or happen to have some fun cookie cutters lying around the kitchen, you can make sandwiches so much more fun by cutting them into shapes! Mix-up their school lunch by swapping bread-based meals for a hearty pasta salad or thermos of warming soup instead. It’s a great way to use up the veggies you have in the fridge or last night’s pasta.

Help them make healthier choices and change their chocolate bar for homemade sweet treats! Dip mandarin segments in melted chocolate and once set, wrap up for a fruitier alternative to a bar.

Replace the fried packs of crisps in their lunchbox with some homemade sweet potato crisps. This easy homemade snack will go down a storm. Slice up some sweet potatoes, drizzle with oil and bake in the oven until crunchy!
